DJECIJA I PREVENTIVNA STOMATOLOGIJA

Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry

The first visit to the dentist is generally a crucial prerequisite for developing trust and successful cooperation between the young patient and the dentist.

Parents and children should be motivated and taught how to maintain daily oral hygiene with the correct brushing technique and how proper nutrition can reduce the risk of cavities.

There is no specific rule for when a child should first visit the dentist. It is best to come spontaneously when the child does not have any problems. During the first visit, the child should be introduced to the working methods and equipment, and engaged in a way that encourages them to come voluntarily next time. In our clinic, we pay special attention to our youngest patients. After each visit, they receive a gift that corresponds to the procedure we performed. We support them and do everything to make them feel safe and unafraid. We always choose a painless first procedure to build trust in our team. We never lie to them, which is very important for establishing a healthy relationship between the child and the dentist.

Tooth brushing should begin as soon as the first tooth emerges. Until the age of two, it is sufficient to brush the teeth with just a toothbrush and water unless the dentist advises the use of toothpaste. It is important to regularly brush teeth in the morning and evening. Parents should brush their child's teeth until the age of five because children are not capable of properly brushing their teeth on their own until then. After this period, up to the age of nine, brushing should be supervised by parents. This is crucial to keep both milk teeth and permanent teeth, which begin to appear at the age of six, healthy for as long as possible. After brushing teeth in the evening, neither children nor adults should eat or drink anything other than water. This is one of the main conditions for maintaining healthy teeth.
